Which Bookmakers Offer Best Odds Guaranteed on Enhanced Place Horse Races?
I don't know about you but I swear the bookmakers are making the terms of their best odds guaranteed offers more and more complex.
I assume this is a technique to battle professional gamblers who are gaining an "unfair" advantage over certain bookmakers. Or maybe it's just a cost cutting exercise?

If you don't know, Best Odds Guaranteed is a horse racing offer that gives you the sp (starting price odds) as the odds price if it is higher than the odds price you took when you placed the bet.
This can be significant e.g. a bet I checked was Stallone which I backed at 8/1 in the 14:00 at Southwell, it drifted to win at 16/1. This means for a £10 bet getting Best Odds Guaranteed is the difference between getting an £80 return and a £160 return.
As this bet was in a race that had an enhance place term (4 places instead of 3 places for a 14 runner race) only certain bookmakers would actually give the 16/1 as the odds price to the customer.
If you are unclear what enhanced place means its where the bookie goes beyond the standard place terms shown below...
The standard place terms in horse racing are as follows:
- Races with 5-7 runners: 1/4 of the odds for the first two places.
- Races with 8+ runners: 1/5 of the odds for the first three places.
- Races with 12-15 runners in handicaps: 1/4 of the odds for the first three places.
- Races with 16+ runners in handicaps: 1/4 of the odds for the first four places.
So if your place terms goes beyond those terms e.g. you get 3 places in a 7 runner race and not 2 you have an enhanced place. This is not uncommon these days so its important to understand when you will miss out on BOG, rather than finding out the hard way with a bet returning less than you expected.

Even within this table you need to note the specific terms. Here are a few things to note.
Betfred do not give it on "super extra place" you can see which these are on the Betfred website fortunately most enhanced place races ARE included. For the day I checked only two races where "super extra place" while 6 were "extra place" races. So 6/8 would count. Betfred also do not give the deal on Lucky15, Lucky31 and Lucky 63 bets. I assume this restriction relates to Betfred already giving some of the best bonuses on Lucky multiple bets.
Betfair do not give BOG to its 2% customers. So if you're a Betfair Exchange customer the chances are you are using the 2% deal so you do not get BOG at all.
William Hill's offer is from 10:00 am which is a little later than some others that start earlier in the day, so try not to get caught out with an early bet. William Hill can also remove BOG at its discretion so make sure you actually get it before committing.
